Pastor Adam Durso and LEAD.NYC brought together 30 of New York’s top pastors who took a break from the weight of their ministries for an inspiring 30-hour retreat featuring beach, boating and bonding.
Spending time together in the sun and on the water at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach (Long Island), these leaders from large congregations built closer relationships, found solutions to common problems and, after returning to dry land, were inspired by the words of inspirational leaders like Dr. A.R. Bernard, Dr. David Ireland, Dr. Mark Rivera and Pastor Jon Tyson.
Held June 11-12, the 30 for 30 Pastoral Leadership Cabinet Retreat was a powerful gathering that provided a space for NY metropolitan pastors to recharge and open their hearts to deeper relationships with God and each other.

“As I reflect on our recent Pastors 30-hour retreat, fond memories come to mind. Getting away even for a brief time has huge dividends. We get a chance to reconnect with area pastors and are reminded that we’re not alone. This get-together reminds me of a college roommate of mine who used to call me comrade. When I questioned why he used that moniker, his response still sticks with me today, some 35 years later. He said, ‘We’re in a similar struggle. That’s why I call you comrade.’ He was from Zimbabwe, which was experiencing a civil war. The use of comrade rallied the troops to maintain a sense of community and focus. The retreat gave me a chance to see my comrades and be strengthened by them. Although I taught one session, I learned from all the other guys through the informal table fellowship and the formal talks. Thanks for making it happen.”

Keep it alive with the transparency, understanding, and support that are necessary for deep relationships among us.’ That’s how Jamal Bernard exhorted me and 29 other pastors during the final session of our 30-hour retreat. He could never have said that a year ago. Our group was just forming, and the relationships were new. But things turned a corner earlier this week at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach. We were now going deep. We were sharing with honesty. We were discovering real life and community together. And those changes meant life for each of us, and in the end life for NYC. Thank you, Adam!
